Retro Sequel: Toshi Ways Club Slot

Toshi Ways Club Slot_Old School is Cool

Oh, how I long for a day without game passes, skins, pay-to-play mechanics, and ads invading every last inch of a so-called “free” mobile game. Back when the first Game Boy came out, gaming felt like a pure experience. The graphics were 8-bit, sure, but the enjoyment was on a completely different level.

It’s why I keep going back to my Sega Mega Drive, even though it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a TV that actually agrees with it.

Fortunately, retro is cool again, and games like the Toshi Ways Club slot from Hacksaw prove how good the good old days were.

Guess who’s back, back again?

The Toshi Ways Club slot features up to 1,000,000 ways to win spread across six reels. It features an impressive 10,000x max multiplier that enables wins of up to $350,000 when you’re betting at the $35 max bet. Betting on the slot, however, starts at just $0.10 per spin. The slot features medium to high volatility and offers an RTP of 96.09%.

The Hackways & Flash Frames mechanic uses a six-column grid where each reel can display multiple symbol rows of different heights, up to a maximum of ten. This structure means the number of ways to win can change on every spin.

When a winning combination forms, all symbols involved are marked with blue-outlined Flash Frames. The framed positions then spin again to reveal new symbols. If additional wins are created, the same process repeats until no further winning combinations can be generated.

A blue octopus acts as the Swap symbol and can land in any position on the grid. It remains inactive until all wins from the spin have been calculated. Once it activates, it transforms into a random regular symbol and places that symbol into all active Flash Frames. After the Swap symbol is used, Flash Frames will no longer reactivate again during that spin sequence.

Landing three FS Scatters anywhere on the grid activates the Retro Reboot Bonus and awards you 10 free spins. During this bonus round, there is a higher chance of landing Swap symbols.

If four FS Scatters appear in a single game round, you will trigger the Suckr Punch Bonus and receive 10 free spins. This bonus introduces the Slicing Swap symbol, which activates when Flash Frames are present. It replaces itself and all framed positions with a random paying symbol and slices them into the smallest possible size, increasing the number of symbols and ways to win.

While playing either bonus mode, landing two or three FS Scatters at the same time awards an additional two or four free spins, respectively.

When five FS Scatters land simultaneously in the base game, you will enter the Tokyo Data Drift Hidden Epic Bonus. This mode contains 10 free spins and guarantees that either a Swap or Slicing Swap symbol lands on every free spin. This bonus round cannot be retriggered.

As with all Hacksaw games, the Toshi Ways Club slot offers a wide range of bonus buy options for you to choose from.

Is the Toshi Ways Club slot better than the original?

I love the retro goodness of the original Toshi Video Club slot, and as with all things I love, I’m hesitant about sequels. That said, Hacksaw killed it with the Toshi Ways Club slot. Instead of taking away from the original, it builds on everything that made it great and introduces new fun retro styling and some cool bonus features. It’s really the perfect example of how to handle a sequel.

If you’re looking for a few other great Hacksaw sequels, I recommend Drop’em and Donny and Danny.
